‘Aruna’s Story’ will of course speak about her story.

The nurse who was raped by a dog lab’s cleaner, who used a dog chain. This happened on the 27th of Nov, 1973 at the King Edward Memorial Hospital, (KEM Hospital) in Mumbai.

Aruna lay in a permanent vegetative state for close to 42 years, and died recently, in May of this year, in Mumbai…

She was 25 years old when she was raped, and close to 66 years when she died..

The nurses in the hospital tended to her…

Her story is poignant, because, inspite of coming from poor and humble beginnings… she dreamt tall dreams for herself… she was a spitfire of a woman, independent, ambitious, very intelligent, and very much in love with Dr. Sundeep Sardesai, who worked in the same hospital and who she was planning to marry soon.

Meticulous, hard working, committed, ambitious, with a great sense of humour and above all a disciplinarian.

It was this, the mettle of substance in her, and her commitment to her work, which finally led to Sohanlal the lab boy helper raping her brutally …. and leaving her corpse like and helpless … and just existing for another 42 years
