About the Play

Acts of Faith

Explore an encounter between two individuals who hold dramatically different world views. Ahmed, a fervent, militant young Shiite divides the universe into good and evil and is dedicated to bringing about God’s law. Barbara, a young Jewish-American, is hostile to any source of authority and places her faith in human nature Both are innocents when they meet, Barbara as naive in her pacifism as Ahmed in his militancy

Barbara and Ahmed, however, are not meant to be either spokesmen presenting positions for a post-play debate or ethnic
archetypes–Ahmed does not represent all Arabs any more than Barbara represents all Jews. They are simply two individuals who are confined face-to-face for a time by the press of world events.
